Snehana

Snehana therapy is also known as Oleation therapy in the field of Ayurveda. Snehana includes procedures that lubricates the body internally or externally. It involves body massage using fats like ghee, animal fat, bone marrow or plant sources like vegetable oil.

Types of Snehana are as follows:

Sarvanga Abhyanga:

Sarvanga Abhyanga is the whole body massage which is carried out using oils. It calms nerves, improves better sleep.

Sthanik Abhyanga:
Sthanik Abhyanga involves the massage of particular body part which has pain ex. Hand, legs, etc.

Padabhyanga:
Padabhyanga is a foot massage therapy. Padabhyanga removes roughness, stiffness, dryness, numbness of foot. The treatment helps in improving and maintaining good eyesight, cures sciatica.

Karnapuran:
Karnapuran therapy is done with oils. It means, putting oil in your ears. This improves hearing , loosens ear wax, strengthens the ear bones.

Netratarpana:
In netratarpana therapy the pool like structure is formed around the eyes using urad floor dough(black split gram) and the pure herbal ghee is placed in it. It helps to bring back brightness and clarity of eyes and promotes relaxation.

Shirobasti:
In shirobasti therapy roof like compartment is build over the head of the patient and fill it up with different kinds of herbal oils to strengthen the head and its components. This provides relaxation to body and mind.

Shirodhara:
Shirodhara includes gently pouring liquids over the forehead. This helps to reduce memory problems, promotes better sleep, improves concentration.

Hridbasti:
In this therapy pool like structure is prepared using urad atta where the heart is situated. It helps to regulate cardiac functions, improves blood circulation and breathing.

Grivabasti, katibasti, prushtavanshbasti:
Griva refers to neck. This involves bathing of the neck region with medicated oil. It helps to relieves the burden of stress and congestion in nerves, improves flexibility.

Janu basti:
Janu basti helps to remove doshas from knees. In this therapy again the pool is prepared on the knee and oil is placed in it. It helps to remove stiffness and pain in knee joints.

Swedana:
Swedana involves various techniques that induce sweating.

Nadi sweda:
In this therapy steam are sent through a tube. So the vapours can be provided to a small part of body.

Peti sweda:
In this the steam bath is given in given in steam box. The head of patient is kept out of the box.

Pind sweda:
Pind sweda is done by using medicated cooked rice.

Potli sweda:
Potli sweda is done with herbs and other ayurvedic herbs. In this potli fried ingredients are used for massage.

Dhara sweda:
Dhara sweda is done by pouring lukewarm oils or kadhas on the body.
